![]() ![]() ![]() I don't man to sound harsh, just the term 'very highly recommended' depends on who you are asking. I won't comment on what target group they consider codec packs to be for For example, MediaInfo Lite [version 0.7.44) is old, and is by far no more official than the current version 0.7.46. plus msot enthusiasts like over at doom9 would prefer to install only the things they want separately, as even codec packs don't stay up to date. Klite is better than codec packs used to be, but anything more than the standard pack is pretty much pointless. He should know, he's the main programmer for it! If you don't believe me you can argue this with dark shakari (Jason Garret-Glaser) on the Doom9 or Doom10 forum. x264 can be accessed using the ffdshow encoder anyway, through the directshow interface. In terms of VFW codecs, VFW is deprecated, and VFW x264 is not recommended, it uses hack methods to be able to use the VFW interface and doesn't support all of x264's features. If the performance of the CPU can't decode Full-HD h264, you probably need to update! It had to be removed because of copyright infringement, but not only that the version which was free was so old it had no benefit over ffdshow. MPEG audio splitter (Gabest) Īlso you would have to be using an old version of Klite to be using CoreAVC. Including xvid decoder is kinda pointless since its covered in ffdshow, which also allows you to set post-processing effects.Īgain these in the full pack are part of mpc-hc: The following in the standard pack are actually filters incorporated into mpc-hc: basic pack is basically mpc-hc plus ffdshow Looks like klite just includes the recent build of ffdshow and mpc-hc at the time it was released. There is no official (technically) MPC-HC or FFDshow, so although the links I gave may be for the latest builds in most cases it doesn't mean they are any less stable - if you have issues plenty of other versions there to choose from. Just checked out klite, seems different than it used to but there are a few key points: For x264 video I use CoreAVC, which isn't included because you have to pay for it but it only supports Nvidia CUDA and not ATI Stream so no need to buy it unless you're on Nvidia (when LAV CUVID doesn't work for you). I use AC3Filter 1.63b also, it's included in the codec pack (FFDshow is something I barely use anymore nowadays, just for XviD video decoding mostly - but it's also included). It doesn't reset any of your settings to their default without asking you first, either. ![]() It doesn't blindly change the versions of stuff that you've already previously installed, instead it asks you politely what it is you want before continuing the install. It keeps your collection of codecs free from possible installation errors as well as easy to maintain. All you have to do to install / remove stuff is run the installer once more. The k-lite mega codec pack installer is brilliant because it lets you manually select what you need and don't need. Also, nightly builds are beta builds (test versions) which often turn out to have bugs in them so to avoid problems, the k-lite codec pack updates only change stuff after it's all been properly tested first. I've been using them for almost two years already.Įverything you've just summed up is already in them so no need to download stuff separately. ^ As a matter of fact, the k-lite codec packs are very highly recommended. Its just setting it up that takes the time and you got to do it right! If you tweak all the settings in MPC-HC, install AC3Filter and play with the settings and merit for it, install ffdshow and play with the audio settings and filter merit (and crystality filter adjusted), add the shader scripts from JW from the forum etc, you can get very superior audio and picture quality, far superior to any other player out there. MPC-HC is also quite adjustable, and you can change the snorefest of a toolbar with something a little better looking using the toolbar skin feature. The sourfeforge page for MPC is updated relatively rarely, and most enthusiasts would use more recent builds.įor the latest MPC-HC builds and FFDShow builds, visit here (both are updated frequently, at worst the builds will be a few days old!):īuilds by one of the MPC-HC contributors: This is 3346 revisions in the MPC-HC branch, not from the beginning of MPC. MPC-HC also has many different builds, the latest MPC-HC revision is 3346 (currently, as this post is written). MPC has many different versions, all with the same build number! all are old now of course. CODEC packs are definitely not recommended, and you don't really need them these days anyway since MPC-HC and FFDShow covers pretty much everything out there! ![]()
